last week?! WHAT.

Blog

So it’s a little hard to write so much when I’m coming home so soon, but I suppose a few interesting things have happened.

Yesterday, when I was playing with the kids, or checking on them, they were playing their hopscotch games with bits of broken glass.. ohboy. So, I threw it away, tried to non-verbally tell them it was dangerous, went to see some other girls, came back, and more glass, which they rather shamefully gave back to me. And I found a little pile and threw it all away. Moral of the story, is I agree with astra that the kids need someone to spend more time with it. I think Comeon would be great, and I’ve spent evenings with her talking about the kids and what is good to do, but there is an issue with Seng Harm, the current coordinator who doesn’t actually seem to spend any time with the kids, and no one I think wants to tell him he’s really done for, etc. We also had a bit of fun the other day spelling words in the grass. The “spell, say, translate” is pretty ingrained.. as in E-G-G egg, ki. ( I think.) so we spelled chicken, pork, our names in the dirt. Today, we sat on a plastic thing, and I was reading while they jumped around and over this rubber band string kinda like they used to at Saeree, except this one has two parts. Or is a big loop. Anyways. So, they investigated my book, and eventually started with the my name is, and we all said our names, and they made awful fun of my prononciation, obviously I was butchering this poor girls name, and they crawled over me and then recited the days of the week, then the months of the year, which after july got very fast and VERY LOUD and the woman walking by me laughed with me as we covered our ears. They’re funny. They also are pretty amazing by how giant my nose is, and showed it by pointing to me, and then stretching theirs up, and then pointing to themselves and showing ‘flat.’ I’ve interviewed Sai Lang and gotten a HUGE amount of information on Shan State politics, and started writing my paper, which is why I’m more than a bit giddy and nutso writing this. I have a bug bite on my chin and, can you believe is, my EFFING EARLOBE. The bottom of it. it’s really hard to scratch. Bugger. Emmett has some friends in Bangkok that have his watch, so I might meet up with them next Sunday and get it, so I can mail it to him from the states, way cheaper. He’s back in Chicago.

Okay!

AHHH!

LAST WEEK!

HOLY CRAP.
