It's two am, and I'm in bangkok. YEAHHHH!!!!!
First of all, taking a place across the ocean is pretty cool, mostly because I got to order wine with my food, and watch lots of bad movies. By the time I got to Seoul, I was pretty exhausted, so didn't do too much of anything at the airport, but it's very large and shiny and white. I think the coolest thing was probably that the toilets have plastic seat covers on them, and when you push a red putton it rotates so you get a new one.. haha. The flight from Seoul to Bangkok was excellent, just because I got the middle section of three seats and was the only one! So, all I did was use all the blankets and pillows to make a cozy little nest and passed out. Unfortunately, I didn't really get to look out at the world during either of my flights.
So, then I got here, and decided against camping out in the airport until morning, and followed the sea of people to the public taxi area, used Emmett's advice and asked for this road that has lots of guesthouses on it, so I was told. My lack of information kicked in later, when the driver pulled over and I didn't see anything, and we had a serious lack of common language.. oh boy, so he called someone on his cell phone who I talked to for a minute, and then he talked to her again, and pointed me down the right road. The first guest house I walked in was empty, so I tried the next one, even though it looked bigger and brighter and more expensive. Still it was only 450 baht for the taxi and 500 for the room, plus 20 for my roasted corn I just ate, so I think I"m doing alright on the expense front. I coudn't resist coming back out to see this road, which is blocked off for most cars but does have the occasional motorcycle, moped, or small vehicle. It's lined with food vendors in their small carts, groups of Thai youth (?), tourists and travellers speaking in all kinds of languages. Haven't heard any english yet, except for the music.. a little ACDC is always in style. It's 82 degress, and feels like I'm in a sauna. every time the taxi rolled down the window to pay a toll, it shocked me to feel the warm air come in and the cool air leave. And the smell! It's so different. Completely. Well, I think I"m going to go try and shower in the bathroom, which just is tiled and has a shower head on the wall. after, of course, I get let back into the room. haha.
Wish me luck on getting a train tomorrow! If not, I might just stay one more night. we'll see!
