oh, i miss cereal.

Blog for 2/26
Yesterday, while I was sitting outside waiting for the dreaded lesson (I actually had one) I was watching the cutest little Thai boys get closer, and closer. One of their favorite things to do is hide behind bushes or trees, or walls, or anything, and then call out the phrases that they know… “Hello! Good Morning! Thank You! Teacher! My name is!” in various combinations. If I turn around, and make eye contact, they just erupt in giggle and scamper off pushing and shoving each other madly. Then, they decided to come and sit near me on this rail that borders the field, only I was sitting sideways and they were sitting in a chain straddling it, with their backs to me, scooting closer and closer, until finally the one closest to me bailed and then they all haul off topsy turvy leaving shoes and people behind, still laughing hysterically. They started playing this game, where they were paired off and would hook knees together on the legs that were closest to each other and hop around on just two feet until they fell over, and some were giving piggy back rides, but with the one riding sticking a leg out like a spear and racing towards some poor victim. Later, after I went inside for a moment, I came out and there were two white and sweet smelling blossoms, one rubber-banded to one shoe and one resting on top of the other. Cute.
Then, after 45 minutes of somewhat pointless and a little tortured English speaking (which did have it’s successful moments), I piddled about reading and laying and writing, etc. that evening, I went into the teachers work room where there were a group of students. I never figured out what the outfits were for… oh well. The actual teachers were having a meeting in the next room over, but there girls were watching a Thai music video, over, and over, and over again, and practicing the dance moves, and the ones that weren’t dancing were singing with the words on the screen karaoke style. They invited me, but I declined. It was too much fun watching. They did this, in various surges as the die-hards continued and their friends came and went, for at least 3 hours. Phenomenal. I went to bed with that song stuck in my head… and I don’t even know what it’s about! Then, this morning, one of the other teachers started off singing it. We all laughed. Today, there are no morning classes, and I’m not sure if I’ll have one in the afternoon or not. The older students are off in the forest collecting something. Tea maybe? Some plant? Someone tried to explain it to me, and I’m sorry I missed them leaving, it might have been neat to go. I have seen kids coming back with long branches throughout the morning, but that’s just for fire I think. Eh, the English teacher from the school we went recruiting at, is here, but I’m not too sure why. I talked to her for a minute though, which was nice. Some of the even younger kids, today, when I was sitting outside reading, brought their book and sat around the table with me for a while. They don’t really say much, and just whisper to each other a bit, but watch me voraciously, it seems. One boy, and the rest girls, and they took his hat and he was getting a bit upset, but then they gave it back. It still seems funny to me that when I’m figuring out how to roll my pants up and wear the least amount of clothes, I’m sitting next to kids in long shirt, pants, and a hat. A HAT!
