Things I decided were important enough for space in either a) my backpack b) very small cube like carry-on covered in old lady carpet flower print or b) fanny pack includes:
all my favorite pens, my red socks with the skiers on them, Billy Collin's Sailing Alone Around the Room, Teva's, 6 books on teaching English, Sociolinguistics or Ethnography, a weeks worth of underwear, handmade soap and jewelry for gifts, short shorts, 4 different types of notebooks, bug spray and travel hand sanitizer, Independence, and open mind, my coke addict love brenna sunglasses, hopes, phrasebooks, attention, appreciation, and excitement.
Things I'm leaving behind include:
deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, razors, makeup, accessories, cell phone, any pants besides the ones I'm wearing, preconceptions, hair dryer, raincoats, my favorite boots, The Moral Commonwealth, dumb ideas, swagger, good friends, great friends, best friends, role models, family members, and things that have already finished.
